Spree, one of South Africa's leading Ecommerce companies, and part of the Naspers Group, is looking for an experienced BI Developer to join their Business Intelligence Development team.

The role reports to the BI Manager and is based in Cape Town. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop junior staff to ensure work of the highest quality
  • Design data models using the Kimball methodology
  • Transform data into actionable insights
  • Design and implement effective cross-functional Business Intelligence systems and processes
  • Assist the BI Product Manager translating business and technical requirements into actionable tickets that can be implemented by team members
  • Ensure highest data quality assurance through regular and in-depth review and testing BI designs and development artefacts
  • Produce easily understandable technical documentation and ensure this is kept up to date
  • Complete development tasks when required
  • Manage any technical debt and initiate improvements to data assets and processes
  • Initiate performance tuning tasks and initiatives to ensure that data processes are highly optimised and result in good user experience

Skills and Experience


  • 6+ years SQL experience
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse experience (4+ years)
  • Proven ability in designing and implementing dimensional data models (5+ years)
  • 5+ year ETL development
  • 2+ years’ experience in the Ecommerce or retail industry

Highly advantageous

  • Knowledge or experience with Google Cloud Platform
  • Exposure to Qlikview


  • Google Analytics experience
  • eCommerce or retail industry

Qualifications required

B degree or equivalent 3-year degree in a related field of Business, Information Technology, Information Systems or Data Science
Proven knowledge or education in Dimensional Modelling/Data Modelling (Kimball methodology)
